Review: Covergirl Clump Crusher

Here's my first product review from my haul - Covergirl's newest mascara, the Clump Crusher! I was lucky enough to find this for $10AUD at Target. (Regular price $17.95AUD) Previously, I wasn't a huge fan of Covergirl mascaras because they always seemed to smudge throughout the day. However, this mascara did not! This mascara gives good separation, and a fair amount of volume - I do prefer mascaras that provide a bit more volume and exaggeration - but this gave a nice amount for a more daytime look. I already have super long lashes so it's hard for me to tell whether it gives any length. Most importantly, the mascara didn't clump even when applying a second coating. In terms of longevity, it lasted the day without flaking or smudging, and was easily removed with a gentle eye makeup remover.

Two coats of Clump Crusher

I did have a few reservations about the product, one being that the brush was a bit too spiky. I prefer soft brush applicators to the hard plastic ones. The other is the shape of the brush. I didn't really know which way to use it, it seemed to give the same effect no matter which side I used, so I didn't really get that.

Overall, this is a great mascara! Personally, I'd be more inclined to use it for daytime wear, as I prefer a much more dramatic eye for the evening.

Have you tried this mascara? What did you think?

Makeup Haul

Nothing excites me quite as much as a makeup haul! A friend of mine went overseas and got me these products since makeup is much cheaper overseas than in Australia. She also got me an awesome Cath Kidston tote!

Here's what I got:

MAC eyeshadows in Woodwinked and Brule ($33AUD each)
MAC eyeliner in Teddy ($32AUD)
By Terry Hylauronic Face Glow ($90AUD from Mecca Cosmetica)
Shown on Cath Kidston tote

Firstly, I was in desperate need of Brule. I like to use it as an everyday base for eyeshadow since my eyelids get quite oily and it's a good match to my skin tone. It's a versatile creamy soft-beige with a satin finish. It's a great staple eyeshadow.

Woodwinked is a veluxe pearl eyeshadow, that is a beautiful warm bronze/gold colour. This eyeshadow is amazing for people with blue eyes (like me!) Bronze/gold colours help bring out the colour and make blue eyes really pop. I was so excited to finally get this, and I have not been disappointed. It is so pigmented, colour payoff is amazing, and there's no fallout.

The teddy eye kohl is a versatile deep brown/shot with bronze pencil. This is perfect for when you want to define the eyes, but don't want the intensity of a black liner. Smoothest pencil ever!

The By Terry Hylauronic Face Glow is a great to wear under foundation. It smooths out my skin, and helps my foundation last. It smells great too. The shade I have is a little too dark, so I'll be getting it in No.1 Fair Glow next time.

Favourite foundations

Everyone knows that a good foundation is a MUST in every makeup bag! I like to have several different foundations for different occasions (all liquid!), so I have built up a pretty sizeable collection of foundations with different finishes and amount of coverage. Here's a list of my all-time favourite foundations including both drugstore and higher end.

1. Revlon ColourStay (Combination/Oily)

Coverage: Medium - Full
Finish: Semi-matte - matte
Packaging: Glass Bottle - no pump (a MAC pump doesn't fit)
Price: $34.95 (Priceline)
SPF: 6

This is my everyday foundation. I have this in the combination/oily skin formula in the colour 110 ivory. It's quite a runny foundation which can be trouble considering there's no pump, but it means that it applies really well. I usually apply with a real techniques buffing brush that gives a great flawless finish. Being a medium - full coverage, it covers any redness/acne/scars pretty well. Lasts all day when used with a primer and set with powder (not sure about 24hrs though!).

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear

Coverage: Medium - Full

Finish: Semi-matte
Packaging: Glass bottle, no pump.
Price: $50AUD (Myer, David Jones)
SPF: 10

I have this in the shade 1C1 Cool Bone which is the lightest shade, however it is slightly too dark for me, and I find it does oxidise slightly. That being said, this is a great foundation! It has great coverage, and keeps my oily/combo skin in check. I do need to touch up around the nose during the day though.

3. NARS Sheer Glow

Coverage: Medium - Full, buildable.

Finish: Dewy
Packaging: Glass bottle - no pump! You can buy a pump separately $4AUD.
Price: $68AUD (Mecca Cosmetica)
SPF: none

I like to wear this foundation whenever I know I'm going to be in photos because it doesn't flashback. This is slightly different to my everyday foundations because it has a slightly dewier finish. I have to be quite careful when I wear this because I have oily/combo skin so I have to make sure I prime and set with powder, and requires some maintenance through the day just to make sure I don't get too shiny. I also have to mix colours to get the right shade - Siberia and Mont Blanc. Great foundation - looks great and covers well.

4. Covergirl Natureluxe Liquid Silk

Coverage: Light. Buildable
Finish: Natural
Packaging: Tube
Price: $18.95AUD (Priceline)
SPF: 10

I wear this foundation when I want something with a much lighter coverage. This foundation is brilliant, it feels like you're not wearing anything at all. It also smells really fresh, and leaves my skin feeling quite soft. Being a lighter coverage, it doesn't really covers redness/spots that well, but it is buildable, and with a good concealer it can look really flawless. I have this in 310 flax which is a bit dark, but works OK if I blend onto the neck. I can't seem to find 305 alabaster anywhere in Aus (help?)

I'd recommend all these foundations without hesitation! Keep in mind that I have oily/combination skin, so I can't really comment on how these would work on a normal or dry skin type.

I'd love to hear what your favourite foundation is! Let me know in the comments!

Review: Skin Clarity

Skin Clarity is a 3-step skin care regime in the same vein as Proactiv. I bought this from Priceline on sale for $29.95, and it came with foaming cleanser, clarity gel, repair cream, and a spot gel. I'd been having problems with breakouts and was in desperate need of something to help save my skin so I thought I'd give this a try.

Welcome to Dolce Beauty and Fashion! I've been thinking about starting a blog for a while now (because I'm so full of opinions), and I've finally been encouraged enough to actually do it. Yay! Reading reviews before I buy a product is something I've always done - I think it's important to be well-informed so you don't end up wasting money (which happens far too often here in Australia with the ridiculous prices) and being disappointed. I'll be posting predominantly reviews of makeup, skin and hair care, and some fashion too. I'm always on the look out for more blogs and reviewers to check out, so if you have a blog/youtube channel etc. let me know!
